Swim Meet 101
Please have your swimmers arrive at each meet ONE HOUR before start time and ready to warm up at 5:15 pm for home meets and 5:30 pm for away meets.
Also, have the race information, aka "swim grid", written on your child before warm-ups and preferably before coming to the pool. (Pro tip: sunscreen first, let it dry, THEN Sharpie). Do NOT write on your child's back because it transfers to the pool chairs.
How to Draw a Swim Grid
Draw three columns. The first column is for the Event number, the second column is for the Heat number, and the third column is for the Lane number. You can add additional information to the side, as seen below.
Swim Meet Packing List
- Competition suit
- Two caps
- Two pairs of goggles == It’s undeniable that right before a race, at some point your goggle strap will pop!
- 2-3 towels
- Team shirt
- Flip flops or pool shoes
- Sweatpants and/or jacket
- Snacks
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Black Sharpie
- Money for concessions
- Entertainment: Be prepared to sit around for a couple of hours. Bring a deck of cards, something to read, pens and paper for coloring, your iPod, board games, or etc.
- A positive attitude
Volunteers
- Check in with the VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR upon arrival to the pool and receive your name badge.
- All first-half or full-meet volunteers must arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the meet.
- All timers, head timers, and stroke judges must attend the pre-meet meeting held by the home team 15 before the start of the meet.
- Second-half positions switch with the first-half volunteers at the start of the IMs.
- At the end of the meet be sure to return any materials to the volunteer coordinator before leaving (clipboards, stopwatches, etc)
